New Tehri is a small, modern and beautiful hill town situated at an elevation of about 1600mts above sea - level in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand India. New Tehri is the headquarters Tehri Garhwal district.
The Old Tehri town got submerged due to the building of the Tehri Dam. New Tehri was built in order to rehablitate the submerged town of Old Tehri.

Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India, 2nd highest in Asia and 8th highest in World. It is on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri Garhwal in Uttarakhand, India.
The dam is being built by THDC India Ltd. The dam is expected to generate about 2400 megawatts of electricity. The total cost associated with the project is around Rs 8000/- crores.
Dhanaulti ( 24 kms from New Tehri is a beautiful hill station on the Chamba - Mussoorie rd. The perfect climate and the scenic surroundings make it a perfect holiday home for the tourists.
