Uttarakhand High Court is the third and the most important part of the Uttarakhand Government. The apex body is responsible for the protection of the fundamental and judicical rights of the people in Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand High Court is one of the biggest court and exercises jurisdiction over the whole state of Uttarakhand. It is situated in Nainital the Lake District of Uttarakhand at an elevation of around 2000 ft above sea - level.
Uttarakhand High Court was established on 9 Nov 2000 the same date of the creation of Uttarakhand state.
Nainital is named after the Goddess Naini Devi which is located near the Naini Lake. The high court has the Naina Peak, the highest peak in Nainital, in the backdrop.
Honourable Mr. Justice Barin Ghosh assumed charge on 12/08/2010 as Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand.
There are in all 45 fasttrack courts in Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand has the provision of Lok Adalats which provide fast justice to the people at minimal costs.
