The Char dham Yatra starts in late May, from Dehradun or Haridwar. The Char dham Yatra starts from west and ends in the east , The yatra starts from Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and ends in Badrinath.

Starting point of CharDham Yatra is Haridwar,Rishikesh or Dehradun. The CharDham located in Uttrakhand's four directions - the east, south, west and north directions. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The yatra is done from west to east, starting Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
The journey usually starts from Yamunotri moving towards Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally ending at Badrinath.
The Chardham temples are located at very high altitudes as given below
Yamunotri - 3185 mts above sea - level.
Gangotri - 3049 mts above sea - level.
Kedarnath - 3584 mts above sea - level.
Badrinath - 3096 mts above sea - level.
With the old route which was of around 14kms completely washed off during the floods in Kedarnath. The new route is from Sonprayag - Gaurikund - Lincholi to Kedarnath. This route is around 17 - 18km approx in length, at an altitude of over 13,000 feet.
Trek to Kedarnath and back to Gaurikund will be around 35km approx which is not a good idea to do in one day. So either stay in Kedarnath at the government camps or hire some Doli, Palkhi or Helicopter.
