Devprayag is a small town set at an altitude of 2700 ft above sea - level in the tehri garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The town lies on the Rishikesh to Badrinath route and is 87 kms from Narendra Nagar.
It is on the confluence of the river Alaknanda and the river Bhagirathi. The river gets its name as the Ganga from this place.
It is one of the five sacred confluences in Garhwal Uttarakhand and is an important place of yatra for the Hindu devotees. It is also one of the most important of the Panch Prayags.
Legends say that it was in here that Lord Vishnu has asked for 3 foot space of land from King Bali. It is also believed that Lord Indra prayed to Lord Shiva from here in Devpayag and Lord Shiva granted Lord Indra a wish to make weapons using with the bones of Rishi Dagichi. Lord Indra used this weapon to kill deamon king Vartasur.
There are two kunds in Devprayag one is the Brahma Kund on the Bhagirathi river and the other is the Vasistha Kund on the Alaknanda river.
One interesting thing about Devprayag is that we will not find any Crows there in the holy town.
Every year this place is visited by thousands of tourist for yatra , sight seeing , travel seekers and adeventure seekers. The town is also well known for white water rafting-in-rishikesh.php.

Chandrabadani Temple This temple located on the Tehri - Srinagar road. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Outside the temple one can find many old statues and iron Trishuls.
Raghunathji Temple This stone temple is dedicated to Lord Ram , and it is believed to be one of the oldest temples in India. The temple is believed to be almost 10000 yrs old .It is a pyramidal structure and made of white stone.Telugu speaking priests carry out the religious activities at this shrine.

The best time to visit Devprayag would be from April - June and September - October. Cotton in summer and heavy woolens in winter is advisable. The summer season extends from March to July . The winter season is from October to Febraury.
